What is Early Head Start?

It is a community action program, a service of the Douglas Cherokee Economic Authority.  It offers high-quality prenatal, infant and toddler services to low-income families.  Services include:  prenatal education, childcare, parenting classes, and programs designed to support families as they work toward self-sufficiency.  Early Head Start is an inclusive program, offering services for all eligible children, including those with disabilities and special needs.


Why should you sign-up for Early Head Start?

  • High -quality childcare for children ages 6 weeks to 3 years old for those who qualify.

  • Prenatal education and support during, throughout, and after pregnancy.
  • Ongoing parent education.
  • Mental health referral services for children and families.
  • Family support services that include referrals to community resources and follow-up to make sure you receive the help you need.
  • Health services and help finding local doctors and dentists for your child and family.
